Cast Iron Radiator After Cleaning

Cast Iron Radiators

We have renovated thousands of traditional cast-iron radiators in the last 20 years—services offered range from simply painting or blast-cleaning to full renovation.

Old radiators are grit-blasted to remove old paint and any surface rust, the old fittings are changed to fit modern heating systems if desired then the radiator is pressure tested to detect leaks. After priming we can paint radiators in any colour needed. Traditional white, bronze, gold and gunmetal colours are very popular, and always kept in stock.

We renovate a great deal of traditional cast iron radiators for Glasgow Architectural Salvage (G.A.S), who hold Scotland's largest stock of radiators and can also help source specific radiators for our customers.

Modern steel radiators and towel radiators can be powder-coated in a range of colours.

Please telephone or email us for advice or quotations (An accurate price can be offered if we are given the height in inches, and the number of sections and columns of a radiator).

Motorcycle Parts

We can blast-clean and paint/powder-coat most motorcycle parts and accessories. We have had a lot of experience helping people restore classic/vintage bikes and scooters.

We can:

  • Grit-blast and re-paint or powder-coat frames, swing arms and other bike parts.
  • Vapour-blast or bead-blast alloy castings to an almost better-than-new finish.
  • Grit-blast and re-paint or powder-coat wheels in a range of different finishes.
  • Simply blast-clean parts for customers to work on themselves.
  • Apply high-temperature paints to engine parts and exhaust etc.

2-Pack Paint System

We specialise in helping restore classic bikes and often recommend our anti-corrosive epoxy primer in conjunction with a 2-pack polyurethane top-coat for a highly durable and authentic finish.

Car Parts

We can blast-clean and re-coat most vehicle parts and accessories. We have had a lot of experience helping people restore parts of their cars, vans, 4WDs, trailers, buses, and even trams.

We can:

  • Grit-blast and re-paint or powder-coat most vehicle parts.
  • Vapour-blast or bead-blast alloy castings to an almost better-than-new finish.
  • Blast-clean smaller chassis, and also small body shells (Eg minis).
  • Grit-blast and re-paint or powder-coat wheels in a range of different finishes.
  • Simply blast-clean pieces for customers to work on themselves.

2-Pack Paint System

We specialise in restoring classic car parts, applying a high-quality epoxy-primer with excellent anti-corrosive properties and a 2-pack polyurethane top coat for a more authentic appearance.

Bicycles

Painting and Powder-coating

Careful grit blasting removes old paint and any rust or corrosion from cycle frames and parts. These are then prepared for paint or powder-coating in a range of colours and finishes.

When 'wet' painting, bicycle parts are coated with an epoxy-primer and two-pack polyurethane top coat, for a durable and long-lasting finish. We would recommend this system for Classic/Vintage bicycles and parts, and most good-quality Road/Touring bikes.

Bicycles and parts we would usually prefer to powder-coat are those such as BMX's, Jump bikes, and many Mountain bikes where protection from everyday knocks and scratches is more important.

Colours

We have a good stock of paint colours and a reasonable number of powder-coat options, but for a small additional charge, we can buy in small quantities of paint mixed to any colour or finish required - including lacquer, metallics and sparkles.

Preparation

Ideally, parts for blasting and re-coating must be clean, sound and degreased. Frames should have all components removed though we can remove bottom brackets and stuck seat-posts (£20 each). We can also add or remove braze-ons and make simple repairs to steel frames.

House and Garden

We can blast-clean and paint/powder-coat a huge range of pieces in our workshop, from door handles and fireplaces to garden benches and driveway gates. The appropriate type of blast cleaning removes old paint and any corrosion or rust present, then pieces can be recoated as appropriate.

Articles for the home can be painted or powder-coated depending upon the nature of the item, colour choice, material etc...Most items for long-term outdoor use, such as cast iron garden furniture and gates, are usually coated with an anti-corrosive epoxy primer and 2-pack polyester top coat paint system.

We can blast clean large pieces in our 5 metre custom blasting room, and smaller pieces in our hand cabinets.

Prices vary depending on the preparation and blasting needed and the finish required. Turn-around times vary too since we batch pieces together which requires the same treatments, to keep costs low.

We can usually estimate prices over the phone, but for a better appraisal drop into the workshop or email photos. For very large items it is sometimes possible to pay a site visit or arrange collection and delivery (though a charge may apply).

Specialist Blasting

We don't just blast metal we also have experience of blasting wood, stone, plastic, glass, concrete, fibreglass etc. for aesthetic reasons or specific surface effects.

Blasting wood can give a 'drift-wood' appearance, 'age' new timber or reduce staining on wooden beams. With careful blasting, it is possible to remove wax or flaking varnish from hardwoods like oak, or bark from burr-elm.

Blasting glass and some plastics with the right media gives a pleasing opaque, etched surface.

Stainless Steel

We have extensive experience working with stainless steel.

We have a blasting machine set up with virgin (ferrous-free) media exclusively for use with stainless components.

Blasting cleans up welding discolouration, and can provide a satin or matt surface finish to the metal.
